Hey everyone! I’m starting a new segment of Love, Mirian called “The Lust List”. It’s a curated collection of items or brands I’m really feeling at the moment. I’m always discovering new things that I like so rather than keep all this coolness to myself I thought it would be a great idea to share them with you. This group is all about elementary school nostalgia, strong women, and puffed up extravagance. Here’s what I’m feeling these days:
The Foldover Bag by S M K
I see this bag and I instantly think of paper bag lunches from elementary school days. Except these are way more cool, vegan-friendly, come in an array of various colors and textures, and cost about $90 CAD. I love how they took such a simple shape and something so easily recognizable and made something new out of it. Leather, velvet, white, pink. Take your pick at S M K retailer New Classics Studios.
Washington Roberts Spring/Summer 2016
When I saw Models.com’s recent editorial “Africa Rising” I instantly fell in love. On my Facebook I talked about how important I though it was for Africa, bursting with potential, to finally be getting more coverage in the fashion industry and for the voices of young creatives to be heard. The fashion industry needs these perspectives. Upon seeing the editorial I quickly researched the crew who brought it together and that’s when I discovered NYC-based fashion designer Washington Roberts whose designs are used in the story. I love the use of pattern and the Adinkra symbol in his SS16 collection “Kintinkantan” which means “puffed up extravagance”.
You guys know I love lingerie, that no surprise. *SPOILER ALERT* While working on an upcoming collab for next month I discovered this French lingerie line with a name that kind of makes me giggle. Delicate lace? Unnecessary extra straps? Sign me up. I’m hooked. One day I hope I’m able to own some of their pieces like the ones shown above from their “Catch Me” collection.
The Roadrunner Mark II by Nün Bangkok
I’m a sucker for a cute crop top. So much so that I even try to wear them in winter. With spring coming around the corner I’m getting more excited about the opportunity to wear cropped, athletic-inspired tops and this one by Nün Bangkok fits the bill perfectly. This top features some pretty cool mesh detailing, a cut out, and a dope view from the back. It’s gym-to-street style in a cute pastel hue.
Calling all strong women! What started out as a line of colorful head wraps has expanded into a lifestyle brand and movement carrying clothing, jewelry, and a powerful message. Owner Paola Mathe explains in the About page that Fanm Djanm means “strong woman” and it’s clear that celebration and empowerment are at the core of her vision. Dedicated to “Women who overcome obstacles and still find a reason to smile”, this brand is overflowing with Black Girl Magic and I’m very much here for it.
So there you have it! That’s what’s been on my radar recently. What is your favorite? Curious about anything you’ve seen? Want to share what you’ve been feeling lately? Let me know in the comments 🙂
