In that moment, I could either remain silent and feel uncomfortable about myself and what was to come next or I could choose to be a unicorn. I chose to be a unicorn.
Do you guys remember when I said I wanted to open up more? Well I meant it and what I have for you now is a side of me that I’ve never before been so open about…until now.
A few days ago I submitted my photos to be featured on one of my favorite fashion web sites, Fashion Bomb Daily. Less than two hours later the owner, Claire Sulmers, emailed me back to let me know she had chosen me to be that day’s “Bombshell of the Day“. Imagine my total excitement of seeing my photos on a site I really admire with a very kind write up by the owner herself.
But alas, even the sweetest moments can sometimes be tempered with a little tartness. Along with all the positive sentiments from her readers regarding my style also came a few insults too. Everything from skinny-shaming to personal jabs and of course your average “OMG, she can’t dress!” rant. The Shade!?!?
Due to Toronto Fashion Week I’m about a week late to share this but guess who’s on the homepage of Untitled&Co!?
If you follow me on Instagram then by now you know that I was given an amazing opportunity to walk the runway this season at Toronto Fashion Week. This is one of the coolest things I’ve been able to do and I really wanted to share that with you guys in a meaningful way so buckle up and enjoy my detailed firsthand account of my trip into Hayley Elsaesser’s “Carnival of Curiosity”.
It all started on Instagram, as many creative endeavors in my life do. Fashion designer Hayley Elsaesser and I both follow each other on IG and about three weeks ago I saw a post of hers announcing a casting she was holding. About a week prior the Spring/Summer 2016 Toronto Fashion Week calendar had been revealed and she was again announced to be presenting a collection on the runway, this time set for Tuesday, October 20th. The little gears in my head started turning as I read the phrase “No height requirement”. ‘I should give this a try,’ I thought.
On Tuesday, October 6th I arrived at her newly opened retail space in Toronto’s Bayview Village Shopping Mall. Hayley greeted me warmly and handed me a look to try on. I quickly put on a blue sleeveless top with a pink crystal ball print and slim cut metallic fuchsia leather pants. She asked me to walk for her across the length of the retail space. I thought back to the one time, several years ago, I had received a runway lesson from a former model. I was nervous but decided to give it my best shot as she recorded my attempt. “Let’s try one more look,” she said, handing me another wardrobe option. This time I slipped into a leather-textured dress with a metallic rainbow finish. Its fitted bodice and flared skirt ending above the knees made me feel like a walking burst of color. Again I made my best attempt at a runway walk. When it was all done I thanked her for her time and she seemed like she was interested in having me in her show.
On October 1st I officially launched this blog and began promoting it. Up until then I had soft launched about a month prior and was slowly and quietly building up content, making little tweaks, and getting a feel for what type of posts you guys want to see. The feedback I got in that time was awesome and second only to all the feedback I’ve gotten in the following days since the official launch. I’ve had so many people explore the site and tell me what they thought. It only fuels me and inspires me to do more! I can’t wait to show you guys everything me and my favorite assistant have planned in the next coming weeks so whether you’ve been around for a while or just discovering Love, Mirian now, thanks for joining me and please stick around because I’m always brainstorming new ways to outdo myself and have fun with fashion.
I love a look that’s a little bit athletic casual and a little bit chic. Some of my favorite looks have come out of combining those two styles. While Toronto transitions from summer into fall I’m exploring how to make that transition in style. I love this comfy sweater that is warm yet cropped and with a more open knit so you won’t overheat in it. Paired with blush shorts and a white sneaker it’s perfect for this in-between time.
Full disclosure, I Google myself sometimes. Not in a narcissistic way like I enjoy seeing myself across Google images, LOL. Moreso, in the way that it’s often how I find out that certain styling work of mine has been published or that I’ve gotten some cool press I would have otherwise not known about. I happened to be up pretty late last night when I decided to run a quick search and discovered, to my biggest surprise, my image on the web sites of two major women’s magazines, Seventeen and Marie Claire!
