Featured In Toronto Songstress Amaal Nuux’s “Last Ones” Music Video

When the flame and fires burn out…
When the storm and rains turn drought…
Stand up stand tall
Shout it out…
That we will be the last ones down
Yeah we will be the last ones

Diversity and Solidarity Meet In Amaal Nuux’s Latest Video

It was towards the end of last year, in November or December, and I was rushing over after a long day of work. Amaal had reached out to me, sharing her beautiful single that she was shooting her first music video for, and invited me to be a part of it. I was honored, flattered, and grateful. While it wasn’t my ideal situation to be rushing to set, I was just happy to be a part of this moment.

I remember being warmly welcomed when I arrived to the dark theater. The atmosphere was relaxed. We were a group of motivated young people that had all come together in the hopes of making something magical. I remember chatting with the friendly girls doing hair and makeup. They prepped me and soon it was my time to be on stage.

It seems like it’s been so long since I posted this shot of me on set. I had been anxiously awaiting the release of this video and was so excited to hear it was finally out late last week.

In an interview with Erica Russell of PopCrush, Nuux shares how she was inspired to write the song because of feelings her younger sister had shared with her about the pressures of being a teenager. Russell describes the song as “an anthem for all the oppressed and marginalized communities in the world” that “packs a powerful message about solidarity and the beauty of multiculturalism.”

I couldn’t agree more. Watch the video below to see the visuals for the empowering track and catch a quick cameo from yours truly. Then check out her Instagram here to learn more about Amaal Nuux.

Love,

Mirian
